RIYADH — The General Directorate of Civil Defense has urged the public to exercise utmost caution amid forecast of continued thunderstorms expected across the Kingdom until Tuesday.
The directorate called on the people to remain in safe locations, avoid areas prone to flash floods and valleys, and refrain from swimming in them. The directorate underlined the need to adhere to instructions disseminated through various media outlets and social media platforms.
The capital city of Riyadh witnessed heavy rainfall on Thursday amidst cloudy skies and strong winds. The rain was accompanied by unstable weather conditions, including reduced horizontal visibility, the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, and the possibility of hail and flash floods in several areas, particularly low-lying regions and valleys.
The National Center for Meteorology had previously warned of continued chances of moderate to heavy thunderstorms in Riyadh, urging residents to stay updated and adhere to safety guidelines.
The General Directorate of Civil Defense stated that the Riyadh region will be affected by moderate to heavy rain, leading to flash floods, hail, and dust storms, including the capital city of Riyadh, Al-Dalam, Al-Muzahamiyah, Al-Qiddiyah, Al-Diriyah, Al-Hariq, Al-Kharj, Hawtat Bani Tamim, Rumah, Dhurma, Marat, Al-Rayn, Afif, Al-Dawadmi, Al-Quway’iyah, Al-Ghat, Al-Zulfi, Al-Majma’a, Shaqra, Thadiq, Huraymila, and light to moderate rain in Wadi Al-Dawasir.
The Makkah region will be affected by moderate to heavy rain, leading to flash floods, hail, and dust storms. The governorates and areas in the region likely to be affected by the rainy weather include Turabah, Al-Mawiyh, Al-Khurmah, Raniyah, Taif, Maysan, and Adham.
The directorate said that the Qassim, Hail, Madinah, Northern Borders, Al-Jouf, Eastern Province, Al-Baha, Asir, Jazan, and Najran regions will be affected by moderate to heavy rain, leading to flash floods, hail, and dust storms, with light to moderate rain in the Tabuk region.
