RIYADH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has approved the addition of a women’s segment to the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Holy Qur’an.

This approval was based on a recommendation made by Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, and General Supervisor of the Local and International Qur’an Competitions Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Sheikh.

The ministry is organizing the competition at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. The King’s decision represents a significant development in the competition’s history since its inception in 1399 AH. This addition of women enhances the competition’s inclusiveness and expands its global reach to both boys and girls. The approval also includes holding the competition’s closing ceremony on Rabi Al-Awwal 6, 1448 AH.

On this occasion, Minister Al-Sheikh thanked the King and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for their care and support of all that serves the Holy Qur’an and contributes to disseminating its teachings. He emphasized that this addition is a clear indication of the great attention the King pays to the Book of God, his deep belief in the pivotal role of women, his recognition of their status as one of the fundamental pillars in building societies, and his keenness to connect young boys and girls with the Holy Qur’an, as well as to encourage them to memorize it and reflect upon its meanings.
