    Japan’s Nikkei stock index tops 65,000 for 1st time

    TOKYO, 25th May, 2026 (WAM) — Japan’s benchmark Nikkei stock index topped the 65,000 line for the first time, hitting a fresh record high on Monday, Kyodo News reported.

    At 11 am, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 2,001.65 points, or 3.16 percent, from Friday at 65,340.72. The broader Topix index was up 54.34 points, or 1.40 percent, at 3,946.80, also topping the record intraday high.
