WASHINGTON — US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday that American forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones over the Strait of Hormuz, adding the aircraft posed a threat to international maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.

In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said US forces intercepted the drones earlier in the day.

“Earlier today, US forces in the Middle East shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones that threatened international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz,” the command said.

CENTCOM added that US forces remain prepared to respond to further threats in the region.

“US forces remain postured and ready to continue defending against Iranian aggression,” it said.

The incident marks the latest escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran amid continued instability across the Middle East.

Regional tensions have remained elevated since US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran in late February triggered a series of attacks across the region.

Iran subsequently launched strikes against Israel and countries hosting US military bases, while also disrupting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for oil and energy exports.

Although a ceasefire later took effect, diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a broader and lasting agreement remain ongoing.
