Riyadh — Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court announced on Monday that Tuesday, June 16, will be the first day of Muharram 1448 AH, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year. “This decision follows the sighting of the new crescent moon on Monday evening,” the court said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

Fasting on the Day of Ashura (Muharram 10) will be on Thursday, June 25.

The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Supreme Court reviewed reports received from various courts across the Kingdom regarding testimonies of the sighting of the crescent moon of Muharram on the evening of Monday, the 29th of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH corresponding to June 15, 2026. After reviewing these reports, the Committee issued its decision confirming the sighting of the crescent moon and announced that Tuesday is the first day of Muharram 1448 AH.

The Supreme Court prayed for the continued success of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, and for bestowing them best rewards for their efforts. It also prayed to God to guide Muslims worldwide to do what pleases Him and bring them together in unity and solidarity.
