Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, hailed the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel on Saturday, as an important and positive step toward restoring the Lebanese state’s full sovereignty over its territory.

On Friday, Washington, the sponsor of the deal, released the text of the agreement which aims at ending hostilities that have been a violent second front of the Middle East war.

According to the deal, Israel and Lebanon, with US support, “affirm their shared goal of achieving lasting peace and security”. The framework also determines that the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) “will restore effective sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, pending the verified disarmament of non-state armed groups and dismantlement of associated infrastructure”. Israel has repeatedly said that it will not withdraw from southern Lebanon unless the Iran-backed Hezbollah is disarmed.

In comments on the agreement, Dr Gargash said on X that strengthening the authority of the Lebanese state and its sovereignty remains the true guarantee of Lebanon’s stability and future.

    UAE welcomes trilateral deal

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa) also issued a statement welcoming the announcement of the trilateral deal and commending the diplomatic efforts by US President Donald Trump, and Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, in facilitating this agreement.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed hope that this development will constitute a positive step toward fostering an environment conducive to regional stability, and affirmed the importance of continued effective international coordination to prevent further escalation and mitigate the humanitarian and security repercussions across the region.

The Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with Lebanon and its support during this critical juncture, including its efforts to ensure that arms remain solely in the hands of the state and to dismantle terrorist organizations, noting that this represents a key step toward consolidating national security and stability.

Furthermore, the UAE emphasised its unwavering commitment to supporting Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and its support for the brotherly Lebanese people in achieving their aspirations for security, stability, development, and prosperity.
