ANKARA — US President Donald Trump said his tentative ceasefire with Iran is done, raising the prospect of a renewed military conflict between the two countries.

“For me, I think it’s over,” he said on Wednesday in Ankara, sitting next to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the military alliance’s annual summit. “As far as I’m concerned it’s just a waste of time dealing with them.”

Oil prices are surging this morning after Trump said his ceasefire with Iran is done.

Brent crude futures jumped more than 5% to roughly $78 a barrel— far above their prewar price. US stock futures swooned, with contracts tied to the Dow and Nasdaq-100 sliding more than 1%.

Trump’s comments came after the US and Iran traded strikes following attacks on ships near the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, major tech-heavy indexes in Asia have slumped for a second day. European stocks are also almost universally in the red.
