MANAMA — Bahrain has revoked the nationality of 69 individuals, including dependents, under a decision targeting people accused of acts deemed harmful to the Kingdom’s security and stability.

According to the Bahrain News Agency, the measure was issued in line with directives of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to take necessary action against those accused of treason or undermining national security.

The move also follows directives from Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to preserve the Kingdom’s security and stability.

Authorities said the decision was taken under Article 10(3) of Bahrain’s Citizenship Law, which allows revocation of nationality in cases involving harm to the interests of the Kingdom or actions inconsistent with loyalty obligations.

The decision was based on a submission from the Interior Ministry to the Cabinet.

Officials said citizenship was revoked from individuals accused of glorifying or sympathizing with hostile Iranian acts, or maintaining contacts with external parties.

Authorities said all necessary legal steps would be taken to implement the decision in accordance with Bahraini law.

They added that reviews would continue regarding those deemed eligible to retain Bahraini nationality and those who are not.
