RIYADH — A royal decree has been issued approving the appointment of members to Saudi Arabia’s 13 Regional Councils for their eighth term, which will span four years.

The regional councils of Riyadh, Makkah, and Madinah each comprise 20 members, while the councils of Jazan, Eastern Province, Al-Qassim, Asir, Hail, Tabuk, Al-Baha, Northern Borders Region, Al-Jouf, and Najran each have 15 members.

Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif expressed his gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for issuing the royal decree approving the appointment of members to the regional councils.

Prince Abdulaziz said the royal decree reflects the leadership’s continued commitment to strengthening the role of the regional councils in advancing development across the Kingdom’s regions and supporting the nation’s comprehensive development journey in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

The minister noted that, for nearly three decades, the regional councils have played a vital role in supporting local development and fostering greater coordination among government entities across the regions under the guidance of the regional emirs. He added that the eighth term will build on this legacy by leveraging national expertise and contributing to the enhancement of services provided to citizens and residents.

Prince Abdulaziz prayed for the success of the newly appointed members, asking God Almighty to guide them in fulfilling their responsibilities in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Kingdom’s leadership and serves development across all regions.

The regional councils remain one of the key pillars of regional development in the Kingdom, drawing on the expertise of qualified Saudi nationals to support local development initiatives. For nearly thirty years, they have operated under the supervision of the minister of interior and the guidance of the regional emirs, strengthening coordination among government agencies and contributing to the achievement of comprehensive and sustainable development across the Kingdom.
