RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior’s Medical Services, represented by Security Forces Hospital in Riyadh, has successfully performed the first breast reconstruction surgery of its kind in the Kingdom using robotic surgical technology. The procedure was performed on a 43-year-old woman who had previously undergone a nipple- and skin-sparing mastectomy following a breast cancer diagnosis.

The procedure was carried out by a specialized medical team using robotic-assisted breast reconstruction techniques. The surgery involved harvesting skin and fatty tissue from the abdominal area and transferring them to the chest using microsurgical techniques. This highly delicate procedure is traditionally performed through conventional surgical methods and requires a specialized medical team and meticulous planning.

The robotic technology used in the procedure offers the advantage of preserving the integrity of the abdominal wall through a minimally invasive approach involving very small incisions. This helps reduce the risk of complications associated with conventional surgery, particularly hernias and abdominal bulging, while enhancing surgical precision.

Breast reconstruction procedures hold significant medical and psychological importance for women who have undergone mastectomies due to cancer. These procedures play a vital role in improving quality of life, promoting psychological well-being, and restoring self-confidence, ultimately contributing positively to patients’ overall health.

This achievement reflects the advancement in the adoption and application of modern surgical technologies. It also represents a continuation of the Ministry of Interior’s Medical Services’ efforts to embrace the latest medical and surgical innovations, advance specialized healthcare services, and enhance the efficiency and quality of care provided to beneficiaries.
