RIYADH — The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 154,108 amphetamine pills, commonly known as Captagon, through the Al Haditha Border Crossing.

ZATCA official spokesperson Hammoud Al-Harbi said the pills were discovered hidden inside a shipment of tents arriving in the Kingdom through the border crossing.

He said the seizure was made after the shipment underwent customs procedures and inspection using security technologies and K9 detection methods.

Al-Harbi added that after completing the seizure process, coordination took place with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to arrest the intended recipients of the shipment inside the Kingdom.

Authorities later arrested five suspects linked to the smuggling attempt.

He stressed that ZATCA remains committed to tightening customs control across all land, sea, and air ports of entry, and continues to confront smuggling attempts in line with its strategy to enhance security and protect society.

Al-Harbi also urged the public to help combat smuggling and protect the national economy by reporting violations through the authority’s dedicated hotline, email, and international contact channels. Informants may receive financial rewards if their reports lead to verified cases.
