RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s operated renewable energy capacity increased 88 percent to 12,313 megawatts (MW) by the end of 2025, following the addition of five new solar energy projects during the year, according to the Renewable Energy Statistics 2025 report released by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).
The total number of operated renewable energy projects reached 15 by year-end. The report attributed the increase in capacity to the operation of five new solar energy projects with a combined capacity of 5,762 MW.
Cumulative investment in operated renewable energy projects reached approximately SAR 36.11 billion by the end of 2025.
Projects that entered the operational phase during the year accounted for 45 percent of the total, with investments totaling approximately SAR 16.27 billion.

Al-Rass (2) recorded the largest investment at SAR 5.52 billion, followed by Al-Kahfa at SAR 4.06 billion, Al-Hanakiyah (1) at SAR 3.13 billion, Saad (2) at approximately SAR 3.11 billion, and Wadi Al-Dawasir at SAR 0.45 billion.
The weighted average production cost of operated renewable energy projects reached 6.60 Saudi halalas per kilowatt-hour in 2025.
Al Henakiyah (1) recorded the lowest average production cost at 6.30 halalas/kWh, followed by Al-Rass (2) at 6.34 halalas/kWh, Al-Kahfa at approximately 6.64 halalas/kWh, Saad (2) at approximately 6.71 halalas/kWh, and Wadi Al-Dawasir at 7.0 halalas/kWh.
The number of housing units estimated to be supplied with electricity from operated renewable energy projects reached approximately 2.08 million by the end of 2025.
Projects that entered the operational phase during the year were estimated to supply approximately 939,000 housing units, representing an 82.31 percent increase compared with 2024.
