Trump: Iran reopens Strait of Hormuz

WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump said Friday that Iran has announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for full maritime passage.

“Iran has just announced that the Strait of Iran is fully open and ready for full passage. Thank you,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The statement followed remarks by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said the strategic waterway is now “completely open” for all commercial vessels, linking the move to a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Araghchi said the decision was made “in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon,” referring to a 10-day truce between Israel and Lebanon announced by Trump on Thursday.

Iran had imposed restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz after the United States and Israel launched military operations against Tehran on Feb. 28, disrupting global energy supplies and shipping routes.

The United States, meanwhile, imposed a blockade on Iranian ports earlier this week, adding pressure amid ongoing tensions.

Despite the escalation, Washington and Tehran remain engaged through mediation efforts led by Pakistan. The latest development follows meetings between Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and Iran’s senior leadership in Tehran.

Pakistan hosted rare direct talks between US and Iranian officials last week after brokering a temporary ceasefire, with diplomatic efforts ongoing to reach a broader agreement to end the conflict.
